We are seeking a professional like you to lead our Raw Materials Procurement team members in North America. This team is responsible for managing global categories, as well as overseeing the Tolling and Center of Excellence teams that support buyers in Raw Materials Procurement teams across the Americas.
In this role, you will serve as a working procurement director, responsible for developing contract manufacturing (tolling) deals and driving cost savings for new and existing raw material streams. Your expertise will be utilized through the utilization of our global sourcing network, sourcing tools, databases, and processes. Your knowledge in chemistry and technical aspects, value chain understanding, negotiation skills, familiarity with BASF technologies and products, as well as your creative and strategic thinking abilities, will be essential in achieving success.
Additionally, as part of your responsibilities, you will lead a team of professionals who are engaged in similar activities in both North and South Americas. Moreover, you will be entrusted with leading our Sustainability projects and managing a team of procurement managers who are responsible for procuring renewable feedstocks, managing circular economy initiatives, and other sustainability-related procurement activities.
While not mandatory, any prior experience you have in managing others and/or working in a global chemical manufacturing environment would be highly valued and advantageous.
As a Procurement Director, Center of Excellence, Contract Manufacturing and Sustainability, you create chemistry by...
- Leading and collaborating within the group to identify and implement new global sourcing opportunities for the existing portfolio of purchased raw materials or contract manufactured materials to optimize the supply base and deliver savings for the business units.
- Proposing and implementing projects for cost reduction and new business opportunities through in-depth analysis including chemistry, value chain, and insourcing potentials.
- Interacting with various levels within the Business Unit (e.g., supply chain planners, technology managers, product managers, business managers, business VPs) and the BASF legal team to execute appropriate confidentiality and commercial agreements and BASF technical resources to ensure adequate technology transfer from BASF to third-party contract manufacturers. You will also maintain approved lists of contract manufacturers and ensure regulatory involvement when needed.
- Evaluating make or buy decisions based on value chain analysis, including analysis of current sourcing practices, aggressive search for alternate qualified tollers and a close collaboration with the Contract Manufacturing team.
- Implementing Early Procurement Involvement for new raw materials by engaging with R&D groups for assigned Business Units. This includes analyzing the market to obtain an overview on producers, pricing, availability, reliability and communicating and documenting sourcing inquiries and results. Additionally, you will identify and develop optimized source(s) and/or favorable supply position for new raw materials to maximize margin upon commercialization of new products.
- Following up on inquiries from other regions resulting in sourcing projects for raw materials from North America to other regions.
- Supporting Procurement Category Managers in negotiations and the development of procurement strategies through chemical and technology expertise, cost estimation, and value chain analysis. Additionally, you will support Category Managers in resolving single source situations to reduce our risk and increase our negotiation leverage.
- Coaching and developing team members in a global, virtual environment, as well as establishing and coordinating/supporting strategic teams to drive high value sourcing, in-sourcing or out-sourcing projects.
- Screen chemical producers and their technologies. You will also document as appropriate to ensure the information is available within BASF, identify markets and potentials for supply of raw materials from North America to other regions, and collaborate with Category Managers accordingly.
- Leading the Supplier CO2 Management Program, identifying, evaluating, and implementing opportunities to reduce scope 3 emissions through buying into more sustainable value chains such as renewable raw materials and/or circular feedstocks.
