Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Head Coach-Competitive Aquatics, the Assistant Swim Coach will facilitate, develop, promote and reinforce technique and strength development standards with designated coaching groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develops athletes in all aspects of swimming including mental, psychological, and physical development.
Prepares and implements specialized skill workout as requested by Head Coach.
Assists in coaching assigned groups and demonstrates the ability to work with all ages.
Provides positive, encouraging, and specific feedback to athletes on a daily basis with regard to stroke technique.
Organizes and directs swimmers at YMCA dual and YMCA/USA invitational meets as assigned.
Provides pre- and post-race feedback to the swimmers at dual and invitational meets.
Assists Head Coach in preparation of new season by giving feedback on practices, meets and programs.
Communicates with parents in a positive & supportive manner.
Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
Attends required meetings, clinics or team social functions.
Keeps accurate attendance and all other records current and organized.
Supports and participates in association Initiatives according to association criteria.
Partners with other departments or outside agencies as appropriate to ensure success.
Builds relationships with members; encourages members to build relationships with other members and join in the YMCA movement.
Facilitates and guides the teaching of the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in our YMCA programs. In addition, models these values personally.
Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidelines of the Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
Keeps Head Coach appraised of situations requiring his/her attention.
Performs other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a coaching role.
Possess ASCA level II certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
Possess specialized/recognized certification or education that relates to the development of youth on the competitive swim team.
Excellent interpersonal skills that facilitate positive interactions between youth, parents and coworkers; the ability to deal cordially with a wide variety of personalities both on the phone, email and in person.
Demonstrated commitment to mission and purpose of the YMCA.
Possess at hire and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to withstand being in the water for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids is possible.
